Kirk, Norman T. (Norman Thomas), 1888-1960
Variant namesNorman Thomas Kirk (1888-1960) was born in Rising Sun, Maryland, and received his M.D. from the University of Maryland in 1910. He received his commission in the Medical Corps in 1912, and graduated from Army Medical School in 1913. He served at Vera Cruz in 1914, and was Chief of Surgical Service at Letterman General Hospital from 1936 to 1941 and at Walter Reed General Hospital in 1941 to 1942. He was commanding officer of Percy Jones General Hospital in 1942 and 1943, reaching the rank of major general in June 1943. He served as Surgeon General of the U.S. Army from 1943 until his retirement from Army service in June 1947.
