Industrial engineer. Geraldine M. Montag was born in 1926 and received her B.A. (1947) from the University of Western Ontario and her M.A. (1963) and Ph. D (1966) from Iowa State University. She has been employed at Iowa State as a Research Associate (1965-1966); Assistant Professor (1966-1967); Associate Professor (1967-1973) and is currently a Professor (1973- ) as well as Interim Chair (1993- ) of the Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering Department.

Montag has received numerous Iowa State awards and honors and belongs to the honorary societies of Sigma Xi and Alpha Pi Mu, among others. Her publications and research have focused on risk analysis, life-cycle costing, engineering economy, methods analysis, and work measurement.
