Edward Baldwin Russell, merchant and traveler, was born on September 3, 1849, in Dorchester, Massachusetts to Edward Russell and Mary Warren Field. He attended the Boston Latin School and traveled in Europe for a year before entering Harvard. After receiving his Harvard AB in 1872, he traveled abroad before joining his father in business at The Mercantile Agency in Boston. In 1874, Russell began attending law school at Boston University; however, he did not receive a degree due to ill health. He married Louisa Parrott on June 28, 1895. Russell died on June 22, 1900, in Biarritz, France, while on a trip around the world with his wife.
