Diebold, John, 1926-2005
Variant namesJohn Diebold began promoting the use of automated machines such as the computer in the 1950s. In his book, Automation (1952), he proposed and described how computers could improve day-to-day operations in business and government. In 1954, he founded the Diebold Group, a management and consulting firm that provided services to dozens of U.S. corporations and state and federal agencies. The company consulted on technological advances with AT&T, Boeing, Xerox, and I.B.M. Diebold sold the company to Daimler-Benz in 1991. He passed away in 2005.
