The Baptist Theological Union was organized in 1856 for the purpose of founding and supporting an institution for theological instruction. Instruction began at the Baptist Union Theological Seminary in the fall of 1867. The Theological Seminary moved from Chicago to Morgan Park in 1877. In 1892 the Theological Seminary became the Divinity School at the University of Chicago. The Baptist Theological Union continued as a separate organization.
