The State College of Education at the University of Utah was by state law the official "State School of Education." Holders of teachers diplomas were authorized to teach in the public schools without further examination. The name was changed from State School of Education in 1948. In 1968 the present name of Graduate School of Education was adopted. During the period covered by these records, John T. Wahlquist (1941-1952) and Don A. Orton (1952-1960) served as dean.
