Jack Lundy Roberts was born on June 22, 1931 in Fort Worth, Texas, and received early instruction on the piano from William Barclay of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He studied with both Silvio and Isabel Scionti at what is now the University of North Texas, earning bachelor's and master's degrees. Roberts was awarded a Fulbright grant and studied at the Vienna Academy for Music and Dramatic Arts (now the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna) with Richard Hauser (1909-1970), who was a student of Emil von Sauer. He later earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Michigan, studying with György Sándor, and joined the music faculty at North Texas in 1957. Roberts died in Denton, Texas on January 14, 2004.
