Needlework was a subject of study at University College Nottingham in the early 20th century. Two students were responsible for the course work in this collection. Ruth Mary Bevan (born c 1901) was a student in the teacher training department from 1929 to 1931 under Professor Wortley. She is recorded as living at Radcliffe on Trent, which was also the home for Sarah Chamberlain, another student at the college, whose needlework notes are also here preserved. The link between the two students is not recorded.
