Ames Brooks was the older brother of Van Wyck Brooks and the uncle of Charles Van Wyck Brooks. He attended Princeton, graduating in 1905. Worried by the Great Depression, he threw himself under a train in December, 1931.

Ames was Van Wyck Brooks's older brother. He attended Princeton, graduating in 1905. He later pursued a Masters in classics there as well, producing a thesis in 1908, but he went on to work in business rather than academia. Worried by the Great Depression, he threw himself under a train in December, 1931.
