Bringhurst family.
Joseph Bringhurst, a Quaker, was born in Philadelphia and moved to Wilmington, Del., where he established a medical practice and drugstore in 1793; active in public affairs and served as Wilmington's postmaster between 1802 and 1820; a close friend of John Dickinson; m. Deborah Ferris (1773-1844) in 1799. Frederick Bringhurst was an industrialist and banker in Wilmington; became vice president of Wilmington Savings Fund Society. E. Bringhurst & Co., was a drugstore in Wilmington, owned by Edward Bringhurst, Jr., Ferris Bringhurst, and James Belt. Operated under this name from 1857 to 1877 when Belt became the sole owner.
