North Dakota Council of Administrative Women in Education

Hide Profile

North Dakota chapter of an association for women educators in administrative positions.

The North Dakota Council of Administrative Women in Education was founded in 1923 when twenty-four charter members met in a restaurant in Minot during the annual conference of the North Dakota Education Association. The Council was a division of the National Council of Administrative Women in Education. The Council consisted of all women educators in the state who held executive positions and wished to be members. The purpose of the Council was to strengthen professional relations among administrative women and to help maintain high professional standards among women. The Administrative Women's Award, an annual award for many years, was begun in 1936, with Miss Clara Richards of Fargo as the first recipient. The organization disbanded in the early 1970's. It was revived in 1980 and is now a part of the North Dakota Council of School Administrators.
