The Lutheran World Federation's (LWF) Commission on and Department of Studies sponsored a study project program in which LWF national committees and member churches from around the world formed regional study groups to address a particular issue formulated by the Commission or Department. These regional groups produced a small book or report on the subject which then was shared with other regional groups at an LWF international conference on the topic. Established in 1977 as the successor body of the USANC, LWM was a joint agency of the Lutheran Church in America, The American Lutheran Church, and the Association of.
Evangelical Lutheran Churches. The USANC Office of Studies and its successor body, the LWM Office on Studies, participated in the LWF study program. In 1987, LWM was terminated with the establishment of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
