Elizabeth Johnson was born October 10, 1911, in Swampscott, Mass, and died August 26, 1984. She spent her working life as a librarian and storyteller, and says she wrote her first book, The Little Knight because she couldn't find any story in which a princess did anything interesting, so she made up her own. The book's success encouraged her to continue writing for children.
