Barber, Virgil, 1782-1847
Variant namesVirgil H. Barber, S.J. (1782-1847) was a New Hampshire Episcopalian who converted to Roman Catholicism. Barber joined the Society of Jesus, was ordained in 1822, but did not take final vows. He completed his novitiate at Georgetown University, and was subsequently assigned to missions in Claremont, New Hampshire, and Indian Old Town, Maine. Barber also was active in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C.
