Anita Bowser was a Indiana State Representative in the Democrat party from 1980-1992. She was the first woman to hold the position of Deputy Speaker Pro Tempore in Indiana history. In 1992 she was elected State Senator for the 8th district, representing LaPorte and St. Joseph counties. She also taught classes at Purdue University and at its various branches. She remained a State Senator until her death in 2007.
