Emmons, Halmer Hull, 1814-1877.
Michigan Lawyer and Judge
Born in San Hill, N.Y. in 1814, Halmer Hull Emmons studied law, becoming a partner in the law firm of his father, A. Emmons & Son. They were established in Detroit in 1840, but by 1853, Emmons was partially retired from active practice due to health problems. He settled on a farm at the junction of the Detroit and Ecorse rivers. Emmons was appointed United States Circuit Judge by President Grant in 1870 for Mich., Oh., Ky., and Tenn. He died in Detroit on May 14, 1877.
