Kathryn A. Carey was born on October 18, 1949 in Los Angeles, California. She attended California State College in Los Angeles where she was a member of the Kennedy Action Corps and the California Federation of Young Democrats. She worked for the Robert F. Kennedy presidential campaign in 1968 as a "Kennedy Girl." After Kennedy's death, she continued her involvement with the campaigns of California Democrats. She went on to work hold several positions at the Honda Motor Company beginning in 1978. Since 1996, she has been executive director of Honda philanthropy.
