Nutrition professor. Hilda S. White, a native of Mercer, Pa., received a B.A. (1942) in Chemistry from Bethany College in West Virginia. She started graduate school at Iowa State University, but due to World War II, returned to Bethany and taught general and organic chemistry from 1943 until 1945. She completed her Ph. D at Iowa State after the war.
She married Phillip Louis White (b. 1922) and accompanied him to Peru to participate in a Harvard program to study the food habits of Peruvians. After Phillip took a position with the American Medical Association, Hilda became an Associate Professor in Nutrition in the Home Economics Dept. at Northwestern University. She retired when the Department was dissolved in 1973.
