Leona Marie Smolinski was born in Chicago on December 8, 1924. She graduted fromt he Cook County School of Nursing in 1946 and received a B.S. in Nursing Education from Loyola University in 1952. She continued her education receiving her M.A. at the University of Chicago in 1957 and her D.N. Sc. at the Catholic University of America. From 1959 to 1962 Dr. Smolinski was an Assistant Professor at the School of Nursing, Loyola University. She became an Associate Professor in 1962 and served at the Chair of the Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing from 1968 to 1978. Dr. Smolinski passed away in 1985.
