Smart, Thomas, fl. 1776-1781.
Colonel Edward Wigglesworth (d. 1826) commanded a regiment of Essex County, Mass. militia; the regiment was part of the 5th Brigade of Massachusetts of James Brickett. In early September, 1776, the regiment left Charlestown, (Boston, Mass.) for Ticonderoga, N.Y. where it was stationed until Nov. 23.
Thomas Smart, Wigglesworth's adjutant, later continued to serve under Wigglesworth as 1st Lieutenant of 13th Massachusetts Regiment.
