Samuel T. Williams had a distinguished United States (U.S.) military career and served during World War I (WWI), World War II (WWII) and the Korean War. As a lieutenant general he was recalled to active duty in 1955 to be head of the Military Assistance Advisory Group (MAAG), Vietnam to direct the military effort of helping the people of Vietnam protect themselves against the threat of communist attack.
