Melancon, Victorin, 1835-1914.
Victorin Melancon, Jr., was a native of St. James Parish, La., and the son of Victorin Melancon Sr. and Sylvanie Boudreaux. He lived much of his life in Ascension Parish. He was a brick mason and for many years served as the chief sugar boiler of Godchaux Refinery at Reserve, La. He later lived in Darrow, La. He died on November 23, 1914, and is buried in the Catholic Cemetery at Donaldsonville, La.
Victorin married Felicia Melancon (1833-1915) in Ascension Parish in 1858. Their children included: Constat, Gustave, Edme, Leo (a justice of the peace), Sylvanie, Marie (Mrs. August Landry), and Ada.
Melancon enlisted in the Confederate Army at Iberville in March 1862 and was a private in Company D of the 27th Regiment of Louisiana Volunteers under Captain Edward W. Robertson. He was honorably discharged in 1862 for deafness, protracted remittent fever, and dysentery after the siege of Vicksburg.
