Noble, Ransom, 1778-1863.

Noble was a prominent resident of Essex County, N.Y. He moved to Essex in 1799 and began a career as a shoemaker. He married the sister-in-law of Peter Welch, a carpenter. Noble eventually owned vast tracts of timberland in Essex County and operated a large tanning business and sawmill. He also served as an officer in the War of 1812, retiring from the army with the rank of general.
