Charles Henry Parker (1816-1908), the son of Samuel Dunn and Eliza (Mason) Parker, was born in Boston on 2 May 1816. He married, on 3 June 1852, Charlotte Greenough (1818-1859), daughter of David and Betsey (Bender) Greenough; they had one son and three daughters. He married, second, in January 1864, Laura Trotter ( - ), daughter of John P. and Elizabeth (Wolcott) Jackson; they had two sons and two daughters.

After graduating from Harvard in 1835, Parker read law for three years in the office of his father, who was then District Attorney. He was admitted to the Bar in 1838 and went into partnership with Thomas Butler Pope (1814-1862). That partnership lasted until 1853, when Parker was elected secretary and treasurer of the Suffolk Savings Bank. Parker was connected, in various capacities to the Suffolk Savings Bank for seventy years: he served as secretary from 1839 to 1866, as treasurer from 1853 to 1898, as a member of the Board of Investments until 1875, and as vice-president from 1898 to 1908.
