Jethro Rumple was graduated from Davidson College in 1850. He attended Columbia Theological Seminary and served as a pastor in North Carolina. He later became the Director of Union Theological Seminary and was an assistant editor of the Presbyterian Encyclopedia. A Trustee of Davidson College from 1858 to 1905, Rumple also served as Treasurer of the College from 1876 to 1879 and Secretary of the Board from 1878 to 1905. Rumple wrote numerous historical sketches about Rowan County, N.C. and the Presbyterian Church.
