Quinn Evans was the St. Louis Cardinals spring training "mascot" in the late 1920s and early 1930s. He suffered a broken knee in 1931 at the age of 11, and while a senior in high school he was in an automobile accident that caused his left leg to be amputated. He began a career in journalism, writing for the New York Herald Tribune, but the complications from the amputation led to an early death in February 1945.
