John Sharp (1723-1792), Church of England clergyman and charity administrator in the diocese of Durham. Sharp, brother to the abolitionist Granville Sharp, was raised to the archdeaconry of Northumberland in 1758 and a decade later received a stall in Durham Cathedral. From 1772, he was the senior trustee for Lord Crewe's trust, in charge of Bamburgh Castle and Bamburgh church. He resided in the castle, and was known for his philanthropic establishments.
