Hide Profile

Jules Jacques Benois "J.B." Benedict was born in Chicago, Ill. on April 22, 1879. He grew up under comfortable circumstances and joined the Chicago based architectural firm of Frost & Granger in 1899. In 1903, Benedict traveled to Paris, France where he attended the Ecole des Beaux-Arts School of Architecture. He returned to New York City, N.Y. in 1906 where he worked with the firm of Carrére and Hastings on the construction of the New York Public Library before moving to Denver, Colo. in 1909. Benedict went on to become one of the most noted Colo. based architects from the first half of the 20th century. He was adept at designing commercial, residential, religious and multi-use structures. A man of many facets he was also well known for his perfectionism and cynicism. Benedict was married to the socially prominent June Louise Brown (1883-1945) in 1912. The couple had two children, but were later divorced. J.B. Benedict died in Denver, Colo. on January 16, 1948.
