Vernon's 1923 Guelph Directory lists Charles G. Gordon who was a machinist at Metal Ingot (now International Malleable Iron Co. Ltd.) and his mother, Helen D. Gordon, widow of William Gordon and his sister Hilda. The Gordons were originally thought to have left Scotland at the time of the Clearances, living in the country near Guelph before moving to the town around 1850.
