John P. Combs was a dry goods merchant of New Orleans and a sheriff (1812-1813) of West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana. Combs' successors as sheriff were Ewill Dalton, serving from 1814 to 1816 and Benjamin Collins, serving from 1816 to 1817.
