Located in Augusta, Maine, the company was incorporated in 1887 by Chapter 29 of the Private Laws of Maine. Its purpose was to manufacture gas and electricity for supplying light, heat and power to the city of Hallowell, Maine. George F. West, Daniel A. Cony, and W.E. Maxcy were the original corporators. The act also authorized the newly-formed company to purchase the franchise, property, etc., of the Augusta Gas Light Company and the Gardiner Gas Light Company to supply the communities of Augusta, Gardiner, Farmingdale, and Pittston. The company was acquired by Central Maine Power Company in 1911.
