On 21 February 1833 the General Assembly adopted a resolution authorizing the governor to appoint an examiner of revolutionary claims. John H. Smith was appointed commissioner to examine the claims. On 21 March 1836 the General Assembly abolished the office of commissioner; he was directed to turn his papers over to the executive department.
