Edwin Palmer Hoyt was born on March 10, 1897, in Roseville, Ill. He Served in the U.S. Army and later graduated from the University of Oregon before beginning a career at the Portland Oregonian newspaper. Hoyt eventually became editor and publisher of the paper. In 1946, he became editor of the Denver Post and retired in 1970. He also served as national president of Sigma Delta Chi and received presidential appointments to various commissions. Hoyt died on June 25, 1979 in Denver, Colo.
