Light Shipping Ltd was incorporated as a limited liability company in c1920 as shipowners in Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland. The company operated a number of tugs on the river Clyde and by 1971 was in competition with those of the Clyde Shipping Co Ltd , ship owners, Glasgow, Scotland. In 1971 , the companies entered into an agreement to pool their tug operations with Light Shipping Ltd becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of Ross & Marshall Ltd , shipowners, Greenock, themselves a wholly owned subsidiary of Clyde Shipping Co Ltd. In 1973 , Light Shipping Ltd was transferred to become a subsidiary of Clyde Shipping Co Ltd. Light Shipping Ltd was renamed as Clyde Shipping Tugs Ltd in 1974 and operated as ship towers, operating the vessels of Ross & Marshall Ltd and purchasing 5 new tugs bringing their fleet to 6. Clyde Shipping Tugs Ltd was dissolved in 1999 .
