Society formed 1867 by members of the 5th Maine Infantry Regiment and continued by their families and friends; dissolved in the 1950s. Members chiefly from Portland and Peaks Island, Me. The stock was possibly used to own stock in the building, thus enabling stockholders to stay in the building during the summer.

Fifth Maine Regiment Memorial Society (also known as Fifth Maine Regiment Memorial Association) formed in 1867 by members of the 5th Maine Infantry Regiment and continued by their families and friends; dissolved 1954; Portland and Peaks Island, Me.; real estate and Civil War relics owned by the society later transferred to the Fifth Maine Regiment Community Association and Maine Historical Society, respectively.
