John Glen Powers, M.D., served as the Assistant Dean of the Loyola School of Medicine from 1937 to 1943. According to the Academic Council minutes, the responsibilities of the Assistant Dean of the School of Medicine during this time were to discharge the duties assigned to the office by the president of Loyola University and the dean of the Medical School; handle problems and questions as they arise; and to serve as a member of the Academic Council.

The office of the Regent was established in 1909. As the President of Loyola University's representative or deputy in the Medical School, the Regent oversaw financial transactions, supervised arrangements involving the use of the Medical School buildings or equipment, and served as a member of the Academic Council. Terence H. Ahearn, S.J., served as regent from 1931 to 1935, and George Warth, S.J., served as regent from1936 to 1942, when he was called to active duty as a chaplain during World War II.

The office of the Dean of the School of Medicine was established in 1909. According to the plan of organization for the Loyola University School of Medicine (1909) the Dean had charge of all matters involving eductaional policy; hospital arrangements for clinical practice; scheduling and curriculum; all nominations for departmental appointments including suggestions for new positions were forwarded to him; he presided at meetings of the Council and of the Faculty; and he appointed members of all council committees. Louis David Moorhead, M.D., a noted Chicago surgeon, served as dean of the school from 1920 until his resignation in November of 1940. Francis J. Braceland, M.D., served as dean of the school from 1941 to 1942, when he was called to active service in the United States Navy.

The Stritch School of Medicine was established in 1909 when the Illinois Medical School affiliated with Loyola University. In 1910 the Bennett College of Medicine bought both the Illinois Medical School and the Reliance Medical College, thus becoming the Medical Department of Loyola University. Henry Spalding, S.J., was the first Regent of the school and William Rittenhouse, M.D., was the first dean. Loyola purchased the Chicago college of Medicine and Surgery in 1917, which provided property and facilities for the department on South Wolcott Avenue close to the Cook County Hospital. Accreditation from the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Medical Association was attained February 9, 1920. During the 1940s Samuel Cardinal Stritch took an interest in the fortunes of the mediacl school and hosted the first of what would become an annual fundraising dinner. Following his death in 1948, Loyola's School of Medicine was renamed the Stritch School of Medicine in his honor.
