Lara Marie Hilder (Gundel), born 1946, earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Valparaiso University in 1967 and a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from U.C. Berkeley in 1975. As a chemist and researcher at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) since 1977, Hilder developed ground-breaking methods to measure air pollutants. Peter Liederman, born 1946, holds a B.A. in Political Science from San Francisco State University, an M.A. in Public Administration from Golden Gate University and a law degree from John F. Kennedy University School of Law. Since 1999 he has practiced real estate end environmental law in Berkeley, California.

Kennedy University School of Law. Since 1999 he has practiced real estate end environmental law in Berkeley, California.

Both Hilder and Liederman took an active interest in nuclear disarmament campaigns in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1980s and 1990s as leaders of the Sierra Club Disarmament Committee. As editors of the environmental periodicals Peacepaper (1986-1988) and IMPACTS (1991-1994), and contributors to the Sierra Club’s Yodeler, Hilder and Liedermen sought to educate the public and encourage activism regarding the negative environmental impact of the arms race and military nuclear development, particularly in the San Francisco Bay Area.
