Cyrus C. Hines was a resident of Indianapolis when he enlisted in the army on 24 April 1861. He was mustered into the Indiana 11th Infantry. Discharged for a promotion he re-enlisted and was commissioned an officer in the Indiana 24th Infantry. He was promoted again, this time to colonel of the Indiana 57th Infantry. He was wounded in 1862 and resigned in July 1863. Gordon Tanner was a resident of Indianapolis when he enlisted in August 1861 as a major. He served in the Indiana 22nd Infantry and died on 2 October 1861 from wounds sustained in a skirmish.
