Nathan Jewett was born in Connecticut in 1783, and worked as a carpenter and comb-maker in Boston until 1811, when he moved to Brooklyn, Pennsylvania. In 1808, Jewett married Electa Fox (1788-1865); they had nine children: Francis (1809-ca. 1830), Rodney (b. 1810), Elizabeth ("Betsey") (1816-1901), David, Allen (b. 1819), Caroline (1821-1825), Henry (1823-1827), Lavinia (1825-1886), and Amanda (1828-1833). Nathan Jewett died in 1861. Betsey Jewett married Alfred Wolcott Mack (1807-1884), the son of Elisha Mack and Taphena Lord, on September 13, 1834. The couple moved to Barre, New York, around 1843; they had three children: Ellen (b. 1835), Lavinia (b. 1840), and Caroline (b. 1849).
