In addition to local public offices held, DeFilippi, a Massachusetts State Representative of the sixth (6th) Hampden District, served as Minority Whip from 1991-1992, Assistant Minority Leader from 1993-1994, and Assistant Minority Whip from 1997-1998. An active community member as well, DeFilippi was a member of the following organizations: Rotary, the West Springfield Club, the Association of Massachusetts Assessors, the Chamber of Commerce, the Elks, American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also belonged to several engineering professional organizations: the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE), the Institute of Electrical Engineering, and the New England Engineering Society. DeFilippi retired from public service in 2000.
