Among the most prominent members of the Daniel family of Virginia were Peter Vivian Daniel (1784-1860), Lieutenant Governor of Virginia and Justice of U.S. Supreme Court, his son Peter Vivian Daniel (1818-1889), an attorney and civil engineer in Richmond, Va, President of the Richmond Frederickbirg & Potomac and the Richmond & Petersburg Railroads; John Moncure Daniel, diplomat, journalist and editor, (1825-1865); his brother Raleigh Travers Daniel (1805-1877), Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General of Virginia, his son Raleigh Travers Daniel, Jr. Captain of CSA, William Daniel (1770-1839), judge of the General Court of Virginia, and his son William Daniel, judge of Supreme Court of Appeals of Virginia.
