Stearns, Johnson S.
Carrizozo, in south-western Lincoln County, New Mexico was named for the Carrizo Springs. In 1899, the EP&NE Railroad built their line to this point and a town was started but not platted until 1907. James Allcook, a cattle ranch farmer, added a second zo to Carrizo, making the name Carrizozo, the extra syllable indicating abundance.
