Townsend (1855-1891) was a community leader, planter, writer, and lawyer of Florence County, S.C.; born 1855, at Bennettsville, S.C.; died, 1891, at Florence; graduate of University of South Carolina, 1873; son of B.D. Townsend, who owned plantations in Marlboro, Chesterfield, and Darlington Counties, S.C.; husband of Leah McLenghan; father of Leah Townsend.
