Vernie Alton Moody was an economic historian and a member of the faculty at Iowa State University in the first part of the 20th century. In 1913, he obtained a Master of Arts degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, La. After World War I, he continued his studies at the University of Michigan under the historian Ulrich B. Phillips. He earned his doctorate degree in 1923, writing a dissertation on slavery on Louisiana sugar plantations. Moody also pursued his interest in the economic history of European agrarian reform, producing professional papers and articles on the subject.
