The position of Unit Head for Public Services in the Georgia State University's Division of Continuing Education was established in 1980 and charged with the task of conceptualizing and coordinating cultural and civic programs, grant writing, and fundraising. From 1980-1990, Marymal Dryden held this position, and was assisted by Judith Allen Ingram. Upon Dryden's retirement in 1990, Ingram became Unit Head. This division became defunct in 1997.

A Spelman alumnus, Marymal Dryden earned a BA in Sociology/Psychology in 1949. In 1951 she received her master's degree in Social Work, Community Organization, Planning, and Policy Administration from Atlanta University. In Cleveland, Ohio, she worked for the Ohio Department of Public Welfare as a Child Welfare Consultant/District Representative (1961-1963), and as Social Work Program Director for the Community Action for Youth (1965-1968). After returning to Atlanta, Dryden became Associate Professor for Social Work at Clark Atlanta University (1968-1978). Establishing a reputation for planning and coordinating, Dryden has been: Assistant Director and Director for the Atlanta Council of International Programs (1972-1980); member of the University Exchange Program and member of the Board of Directors of Partners of America, Inc. (1986-1987); and from 1980-1990, Unit Head for Public Services in Georgia State University's Division of Continuing Education.

Judith Allen Ingram (formerly Myrick) also received her batchelor's degree from Spelman College, in 1964, with a major in drama, and a minor in English. She went on to earn her Master of Fine Arts degree form Florida State University in 1978. From 1964-1978 she taught drama, and in 1981 she began working at Georgia State University as Conference Coordinator. Since that time she has held various positions at GSU, including Administrative Coordinator (1988-1990), Program Specialist (1990), Unit Head for Public Service (1990-1992), and Program Planning/ Analyst Specialist (1992-1997). She has received a GAEA (Georgia Adult Education Association) Innovative Programming and Promotion/Marketing award, and Woman of Achievement recognition from the Young Women's Christian Association. She is listed in Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who of American Women, and Who's Who in the World.
