Robert Young of Putnam County, Georgia was appointed 3rd Sergeant of Company C, 2nd Battalion Georgia State Troops on December 5, 1861. He mustered out of the Battalion in May of 1862, but enlisted as a private in Company G, of the 12th Georgia Infantry Regiment on May 14, 1862. He was wounded three times during the war, on May 3, 1862 at Chancellorsville, Virginia; on July 1, 1862 at Malvern Hill, Virginia; and on August 21, 1864 at Summit Point, Virginia. He was captured at Petersburg, Virginia on April 2, 1865 and was released from Point Lookout, Maryland on June 22, 1865.
