Jean Halpert-Rydern was born 1919 in Brooklyn, N.Y. and attended Brooklyn College. She studied art in NYC and in a collective of young artists under the leadership of painter and stage designer Mol Solotaroff. Her first exhibition was at the Norlyst Gallery in 1946. She married artist, designer Edward Ryden (b. 1922) in 1947. After two years in Boulder, Colo., they moved to the San Francisco Bay Area.
