Organizational History
The Congressional Staff Club was founded in 1935 as the “Congressional Secretaries Club.” The name was changed in 1971 to reflect the character of the larger membership and the broadening scope of members’ employment duties. The club was a nonpartisan organization meant to facilitate the work of Congress and to provide social, travel, and educational opportunities for its members. The annual banquet was its central social event. The club disbanded in the 1990s.
