McDonald, Margaret, 1924-
Variant namesMargaret McDonald was active in Republican party politics from 1966 to 1980. She first became involved in politics during her husband James L. McDonald's successful campaign for Cherokee County, Iowa, Attorney in 1952. She was elected Cherokee County Republican party co-chair in 1966, a post she kept until 1970.
From there McDonald held other prominent positions in the state party, capping her career as co-chair of the state Republican party from 1973 to 1980 and as a delegate to the 1980 Republican National Convention in Detroit, Mich. She was also active in a few Republican congressional and presidential campaigns.
