William Willis Eagles (1895-1988) was born in Albion, Indiana. He commissioned in the infantry after graduating from West Point in 1917. Between 1921 and 1935, he taught at the Infantry School and Ripon College. He graduated from the Command and General Staff School in 1936. He served with the VII Corps from 1940 to 1942. He made brigadier general in July 1942 and became assistant division commander of the 3rd Infantry Division. After his promotion to major general in November 1943, he served as commanding general of the 45th Infantry Division. In June 1945 he became commanding general of the Infantry Replacement Training Center at Camp Hood and remained in the position until January 1946. He retired in January 1953. His decorations included two Distinguished Service Medals, the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
